Image playing R-Type with weapon upgrades that can be purchased between levels and you petty much know what you will be getting in the game. The fun mechanic of this title is you can use an energy weapon to kill regular targets and a physical gun to penetrate shielded enemies, so you will be changing between the two weapon types often. On top of that you can deploy a drone which shoot energy weapons for a few seconds in a stationary position, so you can be firing in two places at once, but you will be placing the drone in the correct location to kill the non shielded foes. Did I mention you will be playing as a chicken who is gunning against the humans?What could possibly be wrong with that???. The Metascore is a sham.Best Shmup on Stream so far!It deserves a 90. Not sure why bjut this game does not work, either on my Mac uding wine or my P C. Please fix this.. Just another shmup, but technically highend, no brainer, nice ost, smooth gameplay, alot of options & good gfx. Works fine with 360 controller.. Enjoyed this game, probaly one of the easiast schmups ive played. Get it guys for another 100%. This game has terrible graphics for a bullet hell side-scroller; It is impossible to tell the difference between impact surfaces and layers safe to fly through. The enemy patterns are utterly uninspired, The pacing is about as slow as a hatching egg, and finally the limited ammo is a total deal breaker.. Great game remineds me of Nemesis 2 on MSX. Awesome - serious omage to games like R-Type. Honestly, I only got this to compare against JnG and my own thing. To be fair, it's got a few interesting aspects that are recognizably mutated from mechanics in other genre entries.But the ship is so infuriatingly slow at the start that I'm really not inclined to keep playing. Sure, it's just the beginning, and I'm not expecting a fully upgraded Atomic Emu up front. Something on the level of the free starter ship from JnG, maybe, but I suspect this thing might actually handle worse than JnG's space race pirate ship, possibly even the unupgraded cargo ship. I feel like a Predator pilot yelling "CLIMB YOU PIG" moments before the engine cuts out and the drone just falls out of the sky.It's not a great feeling.. I didn't like the game as much as I hope I would.Don't get me wrong; the graphics are superb, the sound & music well made, and everything seems to be in order... but not quite.There are a few -but critical- gameplay errors that entirely spoil the -otherwise very well put- experience.First of all, the game is a bit confusing as to what it wants you to do.There are message banners across the levels, but nobody cares to read when you are surrounded by myriads of enemies and\/or you want to blow them up.After all, it's a shoot'em up, right?The same applies to the buy menu.I simply don't understand what costs how much, what needs to be upgraded first to proceed, basically, it looks like a mixed mess of numbers, icons, bars, etc.It needs to be clean, not confusing.Secondly, it's the power of the weapons that leads to rationing of shots.The energy weapon, that is the mainstay of your craft, is quite weak.On the contrary, the matter weapon, is faster, and deals better damage with shielded enemies.However since it's got a finite amount of shots (while the energy weapon recharges albeit very slowly) you have to be careful not to waste precious ammo by spraying fire on the level.If you do, you can easily find yourself either out of ammo, or in wiat for your weaker gun to recharge.Not good.Consequently, you have to reserve your ammo for the shielded enemies,Which is dowright bad design in such a type of game because, you have to keep track & remember what type of weapon to use on which enemy to make the best out of your guns.All that while maneouvering to avoid enemy fire , and shooting back to a lot of small sized targets.That makes life difficult, especially during the initial levels.You may overcome this by upgrading your weapons, but the buy menu again doesnt help. That's about it.Sorry if I tired you out with my review.EDIT: I replayed the game, still find it terrible.One thing I should add to my previous review, is that I hate the fact that the game has 4 (yes, four) different fire buttons.2 for the main guns and another 2 for the drones (yes the game allows you to have those too) -AND a special ability button-.Needless to say, how much confusing it is to remember what button to press at any appropriate time.Again bad design prevails.This control scheme was made with a console controller in mind (I think the game has native support for the Xbox device).The rest of us that play with a keyboard we can throw ourselves in front of a bus.Hopefully Jets and Guns is released later this month, and everyone will be able to make comparisons.
