The greater focus of this game is steadily progressing your various wealth classes to bigger and better productivity. The end goal of most of the scenerios is having enough excess good to make deals with your neighbors, some of which are readily available, some of which require you to plan out long-range mining camps. All done at a relatively low-key, relaxing pace.. my 1st economical strategy - unique in some aspects. An Egyptian city builder that uses bread as currency.. Children of the Nile is one of the best games ever invented, believe me. Brilliantly created, it combines complex concepts of strategy and, at the same time, has a great and unforgetable atmosphere that puts you right into the spirit of egypt, and you love the music, the light and the pace of the game as no other game based in egypt did until Children of the Nile. Worth every penny! Worth the time, great game!!. The game Hangs up and stops working. Have to hit ESC to go back to meau and clear it to make it woork Not Fun........ Really great game.. My PROs.... hmmm... This game comes [highly recommended] for someone who wants to spend countless hours vicariously lost in the intriguing lifestyles and beliefs of the enduring, mysterious Ancient Egyptian people.. and in stunning graphics with an intuitive, giving camera/guidance system. I enjoy how authentic the gameplay is.. using ancient egyptian words, names, and places, as well as offering the ability to peer into the lives of peasants, the working elite, nobles, and royal family. It's a modest peering, as it's just a game after all, but it leaves much for the imagination, especially if you already know quite a bit about Egyptology. This game was very challenging at first, as my people sought to overthrow me for issues that didn't make sense at first-- just know, when you neglect one class of people, everyone is affected in some way.. this game proves that careful city planning and growth depends on how much food you have.. So, it was hard, but alas, I didn't realize there was a tutorial-- and in three parts! I love how helpful the tutorial was, including all the explanations and very, detailed dicitonary/help/tips database. Lost? Confused? Click something and click the [?] box. Suddenly there's an entire book of useful information with hyperlinks to other related information within the game. The strategy of the conservation of resources, world relations, and military edpiditions, including running a government, makes this game really enjoyable.I've already spent 16 hours on it and I feel as though I could spend 8X that! I love the gamespeed options of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5.. as well as how every citizen is its own indepdent NPC with its own needs and ailments. You can follow them around, too! I overheard an age joke between a kid and his father regarding someone being so old, Osiris was pharoah! That was a good one! Also, I'm on Windows 10. I was able to load it fine without any compatability changes to its properties given it's made for Windows XP. I mention that because I know others have been commenting/wondering.All in all, my only CONS are that I wish I could build more iconic monuments from history, like the temple at Abu Simbel or the temple complex at Karnak, Luxor temple, or the Mortuary Temple at Hatshepsut... also, more egyptian pestige structures, like columns, hypostyle halls, pylons, and also decorate my civilization with more greenery.. however, the statue options are aplenty and do just fine to suit that need. Another CON is the scenario editor.. I feel that it's so complex, I panic and have to shut it off! LOL.. maybe one day, I'll figure it out ! That idea helps. All in all, love the game.. worth $40, even though I paid $10 for both games.. great value! I wish the devleoper could produce an expansion packed with dozens and dozens of new buildings, statues, items, walls, paths, shops, everything... this needs to be its own ever-evolving Egyptian Sims! It really does!. the first true 3d city building gotta love it. Note: I have previously played a non-steam version therefore playtime hours are not accurate.A truly great city-building game, from the makers of jewels like Caesar and Pharaoh, this game has it all. It has good, well thought out gameplay elements and is a must for anyone who has an interest in Ancient Egypt.I love the freedom that your citizens have, compared to previous city-building games from the same makers, where they were restricted to walking on roads and needed to be guided with roadblocks. Observing your citizens do their daily routine is enjoyable. The interface is great and informative, and the tutorial explains things nicely. You have a good amount of freedom in building and positioning, and it feels very natural. There is no penalty for placing certain buildings near others, which is great, I always disliked having to juggle around the placement location. The prestige system is a clever feature, where the game gauges your dynasty by their deeds, such as conquering enemies cities then building monuments to commemorate the victory, explore the world, building statues and of course making tombs like the humble mastaba to the iconic pyramid. My playthrough was done on normal difficulty and the objectives were reasonable, but you cannot lose. Citizens may protest or leave your city, but you can recover from that. Enemy raiders will take your citizens belongings making them unhappy, but they wont destroy any building. On the bad side, sometimes your citizens pathfinding gets glitchy, but its nothing gamebreaking. In one scenario you must build the greatest pyramid possible, even with 3 or 4 labour teams it took so long that it became boring. For people who care about achievements: there are achievements for concluding each scenario on the campaign, and I didnt get it when I completed two of them.Overall this is a great game and I highly recommend it.. The game insta-crash after that I press the icon to open it...And I feel mad because I had this game when I was a child and I LOVED it, so when I saw it was on Steam I just thought: "holy♥♥♥♥♥♥I want it, just to play again this fabulous game", and then, after I downloaded it, I opened and... I felt so disappointed... Now, I lost 7 Euro for a game that doesn't works and no one will give me back... It's a shame that Steam doesn't find a solution and just sell this game without to warn the customers...
